
Translation is not only transcribing a text from one language into another. From the moment the document is received until it is sent already translated to the client there is a multi-step complex process which involves a variety of professionals.
Whether the document is 500 or 500,000 words long, its translation will always follow the same procedure. In a translation company, a project begins when the Project Manager receives the document in the original language. The Project Manager is in charge of maintaining the communication between all the parties in the process and the client. Also, other tasks the Project Manager has to fulfill include analyzing the type of document to translate, format, content, number of words/pages/lines, delivery deadline etc. After this analysis, the Manager will provide the client an estimate/quotation and if accepted, the translation step begins. All translators know that translation is not only a final product, but a process. And in this process, the cooperation of all the parties involved is essential. However, sometimes we are faced with communication issues and, as translators, we have the responsibility of taken them into account to stand on firm ground:
1) Lack of context: sometimes, the translator does not know which is the main purpose of the text he/she is translating and, knowing if it is a marketing ad, a user manual or a product technical sheet can be very useful. All Football World Cups have its representative hymn and for the 2010 Cup in South Africa, the chosen one was “Waving Flag”, which belongs to the Somalian producer, musician and poet K’naan. The Winter Olympic Games are a multisport event celebrated every four years since 1924, under the monitoring of the International Olympic Committe.
The city of Vancouver was elected host city of the XXI Olympic Winter Games in 2010 at the 115th IOC Session in Prague, on 2 July, 2003. Eight cities applied to host the Games: Andorra la Vella (Andorra), Bern (Switzerland), Harbin (China), Jaca (Spain), PyeongChang (Republic of Korea), Salzburg (Austria), Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina) and Vancouver (Canada). This selection was a milestone in the history of the Winter Olympic Games, since many sports were played at sea level and Vancouver will be remembered as one of the warmest cities where the Winter Games took place.
