A pesar de que rara vez tendremos que traducir dos veces la misma frase, muchas veces nos envían actualizaciones de textos anteriores, software que han cambiado de versión, etc., y en estos casos las unidades de traducción o textos varían muy poco.

Herramientas para traductores
Los ordenadores (PC) son grandes aliados de los traductores y, para la optimización de los recursos que tenemos a nuestra disposición, destacan las herramientas CAT (computer assisted translation), que son aplicaciones que se utilizan para la traducción asistida por ordenador. En español se conocen por el acrónimo inglés, pero también se ha creado un acrónimo en nuestro idioma recientemente: las herramientas TAO (traducción asistida por ordenador). Entre estas herramientas se incluyen:
- Entornos de traducción
- Bases de datos terminológicas
- Gestión de corpus

Translation is not only transcribing a text from one language into another. From the moment the document is received until it is sent already translated to the client there is a multi-step complex process which involves a variety of professionals.
Whether the document is 500 or 500,000 words long, its translation will always follow the same procedure. In a translation company, a project begins when the Project Manager receives the document in the original language. The Project Manager is in charge of maintaining the communication between all the parties in the process and the client. Also, other tasks the Project Manager has to fulfill include analyzing the type of document to translate, format, content, number of words/pages/lines, delivery deadline etc. After this analysis, the Manager will provide the client an estimate/quotation and if accepted, the translation step begins. Una traducción no es solamente transcribir un texto que está en un idioma a otro. Desde que se recibe el documento hasta que este se envía al cliente, existe un complejo proceso de varios pasos en el que participan diferentes profesionales.
Independientemente de que un documento tenga 500 ó 500 000 palabras, la traducción del texto va a seguir siempre el mismo procedimiento. En una agencia de traducción, un proyecto comienza cuando se le asigna a un coordinador de proyectos, quien dirige la comunicación entre las distintas partes del proceso y el cliente. Asimismo, un coordinador de proyectos debe analizar el tipo de documento que se va a traducir, el formato, contenido, cantidad, plazo de entrega, etc. En función de este análisis, el coordinador le proporcionará al cliente un presupuesto y de ser este aceptado, se comenzará con la traducción propiamente dicha. All translators know that translation is not only a final product, but a process. And in this process, the cooperation of all the parties involved is essential. However, sometimes we are faced with communication issues and, as translators, we have the responsibility of taken them into account to stand on firm ground:
1) Lack of context: sometimes, the translator does not know which is the main purpose of the text he/she is translating and, knowing if it is a marketing ad, a user manual or a product technical sheet can be very useful. Clients not always take into account the relevance of this information, but they are most of the time eager to offer extra resources, if requested. Read more »
Hello everybody in the Translation Comunity, we are writing this short article to warn you about a new scam that involves us all. If we spread the word, we’ll be alert and avoid being their victims.
This new scam involves a person asking for a translation, into your language pair, then sending payment with a cashier check for an amount higher than the project’s amount, and then when you get back to them, they will tell you that it was a mistake, and that they want you to transfer the rest of the money via Western Union to another person. The check has a stop payment, and it will never be credited to your account, so you lose the money from the project plus the money you have sent them.
